Time:  Monday - Friday, 9:00AM - 4:00PM

Class overview:

In this one week summer workshop led by Olivia LaFoy, students will explore the fundamentals of comic creation. From character design and storyline development to dynamic composition and sound effects, students will learn the tools and techniques to create their very own comic books from scratch. At the end of the week, participants will have a completed comic to bring home along with all their process work as a blueprint to continue their stories.

Instructor:

Olivia LaFoy is a Toronto based, multi-disciplinary artist who utilizes fantasy to enhance the natural world as a form of escapism and world building. She populates natural and constructed landscapes with characters from her imagination—chiefly, her cartoon persona Crow Kid—to explore her themes in an accessible way.

LaFoy is currently an Undergraduate BFA Honours Major at York University. She was the recipient of the 2022 Willowdale Painting Award, the 2023 BMO Nomination for Painting and the 2023 Battle of The Brushes Winner. She is working towards a career as an arts teacher and enjoys rainy days and long walks in the forest.
