Date: Wednesday March 11, 2026
Time: 6:30 - 9:00PM (2.5 hours)
Description:
Join us for a one-of-a-kind workshop where you'll animate by hand on 16mm film to create your own short stop-motion piece - no experience needed! Participants will be taught an array of direct animation techniques to scratch, paint, draw, and destroy a film strip, and receive pieces of black, clear, and scrap film to create their own 15 second mini animation. Completed filmstrips will be given to the instructor at the end of the session to be scanned into a vibrant moving animation, emailed to participants as a digital file after the workshop!
Instructor:
Mia Buono is an artist and filmmaker from Toronto who focuses on the analog and alternative process medium. Her recent work includes direct animation on 16mm using scrap film, images created without a camera, and many narrative analog and digital short films. She enjoys sharing these artforms with others through workshops across the GTA, and she holds a BFA in Film Studies from Toronto Metropolitan University.
