Description:

Campers will be introduced to a variety of art and design techniques drawn from art history in this week-long mural camp. We will explore drawing, painting, print-making, stencils, and design concepts to end the week with participants getting to paint their very own murals!

Included in this fun-filled week is a half day excursion to tour the murals in the neighbourhood and learn more about the art in the heart of Roncesvalles. As well as a guest muralist who will present their work and speak about their own practice.

Camp Schedule

Learning about murals throughout art history
Drawing and painting project

Day 2:
Print-making and print-making techniques that can be used for murals
Outdoor Excursion and tour of murals around Roncesvalles

Day 3:
Muralist guest speaker
Stencil and design basics

Day 4:
Designing a mural
Learning how to prep a surface for murals

How to scale for a mural
Painting our murals

Instructor:

Katika Marczell (she/her) is a muralist, arts educator, and interdisciplinary artist. She completed her (honors)BA at the University of Toronto, and her MFA at York University. She has worked with the Agnes Etherington Art Centre, Bell Box Murals, Kensington BIA, West Queen West BIA, Street Art Toronto, The Personal Care Bank, Mural Routes, Arts Milton, as well as private clients. Her murals can be found in and around Toronto, Etobicoke, and Milton. She has facilitated a variety of community workshops around Toronto, and is currently teaching at York University. She loves working with children and youth and is excited to lead campers on learning how to design and paint their own murals!

Location: Northern Contemporary Gallery (420 Roncesvalles Ave, Toronto ON)

Max Class Size: 10 kids (ages 8-12)

Cost: $500 per participant (for 5 days)

** All classes are final sale and non-refundable once we've reached the minimum number  of registrants required to run the class. However, they are transferrable to someone else if you are no longer able to attend the class.
